本片讲述了男扮女装的大块头家政夫·三田园薰，偷窥被派遣到的家庭的内情，连盘踞在那里的“根深蒂固的污秽”也痛快地清除掉的故事。
一场洪灾让儿时玩伴澪和野江被冲散。澪被大阪料理名店天满一兆奄的老板娘收留，给予了澪温暖，也发现了澪极具料理天分。一场大火烧了店铺也葬送了老板的性命。澪和老板娘肩负着重振天满一兆奄之名，来到了江户。无意中被一家名为鹤屋的料理店老板发现，勾起了老板对已逝女儿的回忆，在发现澪颇具天分后，让澪在鹤屋帮起忙来。 但最初澪的料理并没有得到客人的喜欢，相反还惹怒了客人。使其料理之路步履维艰，在几次受挫和经由浪人小松原及永田医生的点拨和帮助后，澪悟出了大阪和江户饮食的差别，做出了改变。改良后的食物得到了肯定，但很快就被其它店铺模仿，于是澪开始思索真正属于自己的味道，鹤屋生意的兴隆让老牌名店嫉妒不已且暗中想要破坏；而另一方面，儿时玩伴野江也在江户，以自己的力量守护着澪······
